the reading cursor
The "reading cursor" is a single interface widget that serves multiple purposes. It highlights the text surrounding it's current location by revealing the scriptural source - the Hebrew Tanach for the Old Testament, the Greek text for the New Testament.
The user may take control of the cursor's position by moving the mouse pointer into the text area. But when the mouse pointer is moved outside of the text, the cursor will proceed through the text at a steady speed. The steadiness of the movement is an encouragement of contemplative reading, a way to stay focused during those parts of the bible that list the great-grand-nephews of Abchabelimak, and a way to establish a meditative mode of reading.
scrolling
Each screen in the e.bible consists of a chapter. The scrolling of a chapter is done by the movements of the reading cursor.
parking the cursor
The cursor can be stopped by a single mouse click, and re-activated with a second mouse click. The “parked” cursor can serve as a bookmark, when the user needs to briefly leave the screen, or as a way to read the text without the cursor.
adjusting speed
The speed of the cursor can be adjusted through a click-and-drag action.
